El Paso County residents can now apply for EBT cards, commonly called food stamps, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays at the Department of Human Services/Peak Vista Health Center, at 350 Lyckman Drive in Fountain. The site is closed for lunch from noon to 1 p.m.
It's the first time the county has made EBT card processing available at a location other than the Citizens Service Center, located at 1675 W. Garden of the Gods Road.
More than 1,700 households in Fountain's ZIP code are served by the EBT program, the county said in a news release.
"This new EBT site is an important resource to help families in need in the region," Julie Krow, DHS executive director, said in a release.
County Commissioner Longinos Gonzalez Jr., who represents the district that includes Fountain, also weighed in for the release, saying, "El Paso County is always striving to improve services and access for County residents. The expansion of County services to the southern part of the County has been a priority for us."
