According to a press release, a total of 1,059,000 passengers have traveled through the Colorado Springs Airport this year as of the end of August. That represents a nearly 30 percent increase compared to the previous year.
Increased traffic can be attributed, in part, to gains by Frontier Airlines, which reported a 419.4 percent increase in year-to-date traffic from the previous year. The airline announced new nonstop routes earlier this month, including flights to Fort Myers and Tampa, Florida, and to Seattle, San Jose, San Antonio and Minneapolis.
Mayor John Suthers touted this expanded service in his recent "State of the City" as "good news" for the city, imploring locals to "look before you book."
