The Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department loves seeing these photos, but is challenging photographers to up their game a bit and put in a little more effort in finding great photos.
The department's Photo Expedition contest, set to begin on April 1st, calls for entrants to submit at least 32 photos in a variety of subject matter. For example, entrants must submit at least 50% (16) of their photos with neighborhood or community parks and trails as the subjects. The remaining 50% must be evenly split between photos of the departments Sports and Recreation programs, and "photographers choice," which is the only category where popular subjects like the Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, etc. would fit in.
The contest, open to anyone at least 16 years old, runs until October 31st, with a $250 cash prize awarded on December 1st.
As with any photo contest, there are some very specific rules, including that photos must be taken while in compliance with all park rules. For example, no photos from areas posted as off-limits — and the staff will know if they are — and photos featuring your pooch have to be on leash, unless it's evident it was taken in a legal off-leash area.
