Colorado Common Hard Cider has rebranded as Boxing Brothers Ciderhouse (4655 Town Center Drive, #130, boxingbrotherscider.com) and remodeled its taproom, which is now open daily.
“We have a lot of changes coming out of 2018,” says Katie Murray, business partner at Boxing Brothers alongside her husband and founder, Matt Bonno. “We want to highlight the best of both worlds and create one cider brand.”
The decision to transition came from a challenging year both professionally and personally, with a class action lawsuit filed against a local supplier for faulty cans; signing with and separating from a distribution company within a six-month period; and the passing of Bonno’s father, who was an integral part of their family-run business.
“There were repercussions from the recall process because we didn’t have product on the shelves,” explains Murray. “It was a difficult 2018, but we just turned all that bad into good and are getting our story back into the community.”
Boxing Brothers Ciderhouse, originally founded in 2016, provides seasonal releases with whiskey- or wine-barrel-aged ciders in addition to the fully filtered, sessionable flagship series that will remain on draft under the Colorado Common brand. Murray describes Boxing Brothers as their “premium brand” with options that are “more robust with a lot of character,” featuring flavors like Bourbon Street Pecan and Ozark Apple made with hickory-smoked sea salt. The Boxing Brothers moniker holds deep meaning for the duo, drawing inspiration from a family photo of Bonno’s grandfather and his twin brother wearing gloves to spar on their Houston cattle farm.
“The name change pays homage to that side of his family,” says Murray. “We wanted to honor his father’s legacy as he had a hand in almost everything we did in this company.”
