Claude VonStroke & Green Velvet

When: Sun., Dec. 27 2015

Detroit birthed techno, New York City had garage, and Chicago gave us house music — three distinct electronic dance scenes all united under a groove. Although house icon Curtis Jones, aka Green Velvet, hails from Chicago, he shares the same synth-driven Euro influences (e.g., Kraftwerk, Gary Numan) as his Detroit brethren. He can also sing and compose, rare in a genre where commanding turntables and recording consoles is usually considered enough. Jones' set tonight at Beta (1909 Blake St., Denver, betanightclub.com) will no doubt include his No. 1 dance single "Flash" as well as other '90s floor-shakers like "Percolator 2000" and "Answering Machine." Doors open at 7; tickets are $30. — Bill Forman
