Your Sister's Sister (R)

MPI Home Video

Director Lynn Shelton's first feature release since the 2009 sleeper hit Humpday reunites her with lead Mark Duplass for a more traditionally rom-com love triangle, albeit one with enough motivational entanglements to pass as a character portrait. Iris (Emily Blunt) is the girlfriend of Jack's (Duplass') dead brother. She encourages Jack to take a "solo sabbatical" at her father's cabin where, unbeknownst to them, her lesbian sister Hannah (Rosemarie DeWitt) is drinking away her sorrows over a breakup. When Jack arrives, the inevitable happens, and a regrettable night of sloppy sex becomes an issue the next morning when Iris shows up. Will they act like adults? That's highly unlikely. Shelton's well-known organic process with actors contributes to a freewheeling charm, but one character's unconscionable act midway through ends all notions of a happy ending. When it only serves as an excuse for a sad-face montage, forcing these otherwise realistic individuals to ignore both consequences and solutions to the dilemma, it's a bigger letdown than the sex. — Justin Strout

The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams: Season One (NR)

Timeless Media

Isn't it secretly every Coloradan's dream to be Grizzly Adams? Well, that and to own a medicinal marijuana shop, but I digress. Seriously: Who among us doesn't want to wear flannel, live off the land in the mountains, and be best buds with a giant friendly bear, all the time trudging around and roughing it in steamy, thigh-chafing buckskins? Accused of a crime he didn't commit (growing weed without a license, maybe?), human behemoth Adams (Dan Haggerty) moves into the deepest areas of the forest, making friends with the local American Indians, various crazy old traders and, of course, all sorts of adorable wild animals, including the aforementioned full-size grizzly, affectionately named Ben. Together, they all form a sort of rustic Justice League, taking on evil trappers, poachers, developers, bounty hunters ... anyone that can destroy the harmonious balance of the wilderness. It's everything Colorado promised us, allowing us to experience the outdoors without leaving our La-Z-Boys. — Louis Fowler
