Johnny G’s Delicioso Mexican Soul Food Mobile business, 286-0121, facebook.com/JohnnyGsDelicioso
When Johnny G’s opened in 2015, we praised co-owner Johnny Galvan for excellent green chile and homemade tortillas. The former’s a seasonal offering, as Galvan uses only fresh chilies, which means we’re stuck jonesing for that good shit until harvest comes in September.
Homemade tortillas, on the other hand, are forever, and when we find Johnny G’s for dinner at the hump day food truck rally, it’s all tacos and nachos with diner’s choice of carne asada, carnitas or chicken. We, as any sane soul ought, get one of each taco, but between pay and prep, they run out of tortillas. We’re offered a discount and parlay with the owner to make right, which takes the form of a three-meat nacho plate.
The asada bursts with meaty flavor and lime notes, and the carnitas bear a porky richness. We lose the chicken’s flavor under kickin’ hot salsa. Sturdy house tortilla chips hold up under the mountain of meat, cheese, crema, tomatoes, lettuce, onions and salsa. No harm, no foul, and we’ll be back for more.
