California-launched Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar opens a Springs location, and other food news

• “Rocky Mountain-inspired” but California-launched Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar ( opened its new Colorado Springs location on Oct. 16 at 7605 N. Academy Blvd. It marks the chain’s 34th location across the country. Lazy Dog’s press release says it’s dedicated to scratch-made and elevated comfort foods, plus craft cocktails, and a menu perusal shows a catch-all list from burgers to pizzas and noodle plates. The release also notes “a dining experience that feels like family,” echoing the treacly corporate lingo built around some version of “when you’re here, you’re family.” (Which we take to mean something like bickering’s likely to break out at the table and someone will leave the meal resolved to skip Thanksgiving at someone else’s house, etc., etc. ... Not really, but you can imagine.)

• A little over two months remain to take advantage of deals on Visit Colorado Springs’ free Crafts & Drafts Passport (, good through year’s end. If you missed the earlier announcements: Download the passport to get a bunch of BOGO coupons and the like for coffee, wine, beer and spirits across town and the region. Participants include The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey, Switchback Coffee Roasters, Peaks N Pines Brewery and Cockpit Craft Distillery.
