Caffé Communitas does good, no signs needed

Caffé Communitas has been open for three years, sharing space and ownership with a Marco’s Pizza. You’d be forgiven for having missed the sign — there isn’t one. Owners Craig Cheatham and Mike Parker have done all of their promotion online since they started pulling espresso shots.

Cheatham is best known as President/CEO for The Realty Alliance, a national network of real estate firms, and Parker is a retired medical professor. Communitas was originally supposed to be a nonprofit charitable organization. But rather than compete for limited donor dollars, they decided to set up Communitas to offer a space for existing nonprofits to meet and network.

They have a full-service barista counter and morning hours, during which they serve drinks made with Mission Coffee Roasters beans. They also offer bags of house-exclusive roasts, all of which support charities. One, a dark roast Sumatran coffee, funds local food and clothing pantry Crossfire Ministries; another, a medium roast Mexican coffee, funds Cozumel, Mexico, orphanage Ciudad de Angeles; and the third, a medium roast house blend, benefits a different charity every quarter.
