C-Rayz Walz

When: Fri., Jan. 2 2015

C-Rayz Walz isn't like a lot of emcees. Take November's "The S.O.D. (The Sip of Death)," which warns against the dangers of junk food: "Don't be a punk, dunk the junk." Earnestly shot in a convenience store with sad lighting, the video rails against the sugar daddies of business: "Big soda is the new tobacco, 'cuz it make me wacko." This from a Bronx native who freestyled with Immortal Technique and Aesop Rock and who told Nuvo back in 2011, "Hip-hop is about loving the next person and growing through sound-word power." Catch C-Rayz at 8 p.m. at the Black Sheep (2106 E. Platte Ave., blacksheeprocks.com, $10 in advance, $15 at the door) for an all-ages show with openers including Earsiq and Stoney Bertz. — Edie Adelstein
