Burro Birthday Bash and Bluegrass Festival

When: Sat., Aug. 7, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. 2010

As a former employee, I'm a little biased when it comes to the Western Museum of Mining and Industry (225 North Gate Blvd.,, but I happen to think it's one of the most underappreciated local attractions — so plan a trip already! A good time would be between 10 and 7 today, when the museum's Bureau of Land Management burro adoptees, Oro and Nugget, will be celebrated with the Burro Birthday Bluegrass Bash. Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for teens and free for those 12 and younger, and include performances by local 'grass bands, museum tours and a not-to-miss running of the outdoor machinery at 3. — Kirsten Akens

Price: $8-$12
