So, story in hand, I reward my effort with a treat. The affogato ($3.25/4 ounces) catches my eye, made with local Ümpire Estate espresso. All I have to decide on is an ice cream or gelato to pair. Deeply dark, muddy-looking bittersweet chocolate gelato grabs my attention — how could this go wrong when it feels so right? — and into a mini mug it goes. The gelato sweats its cacao richness into the potent shot, delivering splendor with each spoonful. It’s gone too quick, but my day’s improved.
