Last night I headed up to Monument for a free open-to-the-public chocolate tasting at Pikes Peak Dessert Lounge (481 Hwy. 105, #208).
I certainly satisfied my sweet tooth with samples, including a Salted Caramel sipping chocolate, but I also got a bit excited about a new Chocolate Taster's Club owners and local chocolatiers Chris and Darcie Farrow are kicking off in March.
For a $60 annual membership fee, chocolate lovers will meet monthly with other like-minded folks to chat, acquire informal education on all things cacao, receive exclusive first tastings of new products, partake in a 10 percent discount on all purchases, and sip on free coffee or drinking chocolate during meetings. (I hear "perfect Valentine's Day gift that keeps on giving" ringing in my head ... consider it, folks.)
Meetings will take place at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of each month, and Darcie and Chris say they will likely move the meetings around Monument and the Springs so they can take advantage of opportunities other venues can offer — places like Pikes Peak Brewing Co. or Colorado Mountain Brewery (beer and chocolate, anyone?) or a local wine bar.
The Farrows are also planning to offer basic chocolate-making classes at the Lounge, and continue their wine and chocolate tastings (most recently held at moZaic in Monument). Keep an eye on their Facebook page or Twitter account for updates.
