Not every employee of a homeless service agency knows how to deal with mental health issues. Yet recognizing and responding properly to homeless clients who are suffering from mental problems may make the difference between a success story and another disappointing statistic.
With this in mind, Pikes Peak Behavioral Health Group is offering a two-day class that will give people in this arena the tools to better perform at work.
"This course will not make you an expert," Homeward Pikes Peak executive director Bob Holmes explains, "but it is recommended as a prerequisite for people 'in certain occupations which involve increased contact with people having mental health problems.'"
The classes are on Feb. 25 and 26, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Springs Rescue Mission, at 5 W. Las Vegas St. The class is free to service providers, and lunch will be provided.
To RSVP, call Sue Readnour at Pikes Peak Behavioral Health Group (314-4318) or e-mail her (Sue.Readnour@ppbhg.org).
