Black Cobra

When: Wed., Feb. 24 2016

As with Wolves in the Throne Room, Sunn O))), and other acts on L.A.'s Southern Lord label, Bay Area brutalists Black Cobra infuse their wall-of-drone approach with just enough melodic and dynamic variation to ward off the risk of tedium. Granted, former Acid King and Cavity members Jason Landrian and Rafael Martinez don't sound like they've spent quite as much time tripping in mossy graveyards as the aforementioned bands, but the duo still manages to coax an impressive amount of noise from their unadorned guitar-and-drums setup. The question is whether they can pull it off live, and the answer will be revealed tonight at the Black Sheep, where they'll headline a bill with Blighter, Abrams, and Ashes of the Ancient. Doors at 7 p.m., 2106 E. Platte Ave., $10/adv, $12/door, all-ages, — Bill Forman
