Olympic Complex area
What's the most unique man-made feature of Colorado Springs? The beautiful homes and their spacing in the North End area along North Cascade, Nevada and Weber avenues. What's your opinion of the area along North Academy Boulevard? It's very typical of poor planning -- congested traffic, poor aesthetics. What's your favorite part of town? The North End, the area in the 80907 ZIP code, the Patty Jewett area.
Is Colorado Springs more an ugly or a beautiful town? It's working its way to ugly. The whole east area of town is horrible. Anything east of Circle looks like %!#*. What would you like to see happen to the area of North Nevada Avenue near the dog track? Some sort of development other than horrible retail and brown fields. Some sort of park area, maybe.
Besides the scenery, what's best about Colorado Springs? The old neighborhoods with all the older homes and trees. Characterize the area along North Academy Boulevard. The traffic is so awful all through there that it's an unpleasant place to be. It's a place I try to avoid. What's your favorite part of town? The downtown area with all the small shops and coffeehouses. It's comfortable and it has charm. What would you like to see happen to the North Nevada area up toward I-25? A neighborhood-friendly environment with trees and growing things. Strip malls and slap-dash architecture have no character or quality.
What man-made thing is best about this town? Palmer Park is pretty unique. Its not entirely man-made, but its man-shaped. Whats your feeling about North Academy Boulevard? Its poorly planned. Its a major thoroughfare that gives you quick access to and from a lot of stores, but its a bad example of commercial sprawl. What part of town do you like best? Definitely the downtown area near Acacia Park, but also Palmer Park and the hills outside Manitou. Is Colorado Springs on the way to being more beautiful or more ugly? Thats a hard one. I lived here for 10 years, and I was pretty stoked to leave when I went away to college. Id say its still more beautiful than ugly, but its becoming more and more ugly with all the sprawl. What future do you prefer for the upper reaches of North Nevada Avenue? A parkway of some kind. A place with walkways, a place where people could ride bikes.
