When: Wed., Nov. 19, 6-8 p.m. 2014
The first battle of the bands I ever attended wasn't especially memorable, apart from a teenage rock group called Richie & the Jive Bombers covering a song about constipation by the Bonzo Dog Band. But this evening's jazz event, which is also being billed as a "battle of the bands," promises to be a lot more musically satisfying, as The Springs Contemporary Jazz Big Band and The New Horizons Kicks Band square off for two hours of music from some of the Front Range's finest jazz players. The show, which will take place at the all-ages Imagination Space (Citadel Mall, 750 Citadel Drive East, ppjass.org), is co-hosted by three of the participating nonprofits in this year's Give! campaign. Admission is free (donations are appreciated), refreshments will be provided by Seeds Community Café, and the battle will begin at 6. — Bill Forman
