Street Smarts

These days, it's all about stretching your dollar. And it's even easier now that coupons have gone electronic, with sites like Groupon and LivingSocial sending discounts straight to your inbox.

Marsha Wood from the Fountain area is a coffee shop manager

What's the best deal you've ever gotten from a social site? I used to use Grocery Game. They come out every week with a list of stuff that you can buy. And some of it's free with the coupons, but I think the best deal I've ever saved on a total grocery bill is 75 percent.

Would you consider yourself a bargain hunter? Yes, I always am. My dad is cheap, so it runs in the family.

Do you think the couponing sites help or hurt businesses? Help, definitely. They bring people in and they buy things that they wouldn't normally buy. I found a lot of new things because of it.

What's the most extreme couponing story you've ever heard? I read something on Facebook about how some woman spent $2,000 and actually wound up paying $75 after her coupons.

Danielle Mazander from San Antonio, Texas, is a caregiver

Would you consider yourself a bargain hunter? Absolutely. It is a result of the economy.

Do you subscribe to coupon sites like Groupon or LivingSocial for San Antonio? I do, both of them. I subscribe for San Antonio and Colorado Springs, actually; I knew I was coming up here, so I went ahead and looked and saw what you guys had available in the area.

What's the best deal you've ever gotten? The best deal I had was a 90-minute massage for $30 in San Antonio. But the ones I got out here included 50 percent off a place to eat in Woodland Park, and then one at Billy's Old World Pizza.

Do you think couponing sites help or hurt businesses? I think they help because they're getting their name out there. A place that I've gone and visited before, now my husband and I know that we like it and we want to go back.

Cory Schaefer from Park Vista is a stylist

Why would you say you don't bargain-hunt? I'm just not a good bargain person. I don't take the time to do it. I'd say it's too time-consuming.

Do the discounts ever make you question the quality of a product? I don't use them because I doubt the product. I buy what I like. I guess if there's a coupon I'd use it, if I looked online for it.

Does anyone you know subscribe to online sites like Groupon or LivingSocial? My daughter does the Groupon site for Colorado Springs.

Does she go to places that she would normally? She goes to those, and new places as well.
