The Westside has its first juice bar, and according to mononymous manager Mala, it’s run by a skeleton named Mr. Selfridge. Day-to-day, Selfridge generally greets guests at Bad Juju bearing a few drinks. Mala does more of the work — in addition to managing the place, she’s the co-owner, along with Alejandro Abarca. The spot, which opened Dec. 13, serves juices, smoothies, açai bowls and more.
“We give a lot of vegetarian and vegan options,” Mala says. “Even if you are not vegetarian or vegan, the food is accessible.”
Neither has a background in culinary arts or food service — Mala’s an accountant, and Abarca owns science research companies around town. It’ll be interesting to see how their skill sets translate.
