Atmosphere have always been faithful when it comes to including Colorado on their tour schedules, bouncing back and forth between Red Rocks Amphitheatre and indoor Denver venues. But do they bother to come down to Colorado Springs anymore? No, they don’t.
Instead, the Minneapolis hip-hop duo is playing back-to-back nights at the recently christened Mission Ballroom, drawing upon a catalog that now encompasses nine studio albums and at least as many EPs.
Atmosphere’s most recent full-length, Mi Vida Local, continues their evolution from backpackers to dad-rap standard bearers, with emcee Slug, who turned 47 last week, lyrically fixating on the ups and downs of domesticity. As he put it in an Indy interview eight years ago, “I got the wife, I got the kids, I got the house. I don’t really need a whole lot more.”
