Heading into a gorgeous Labor Day weekend, we asked a few people to talk about cultural highlights both enjoyed and anticipated.
Terri Moon of the Memorial Hospital neighborhood is a violinist.
What was the highlight of your summer? Playing in a concert in June in the Parish House at First Lutheran [Church], a beautiful old mansion built by the Jewett family.
Did you see any memorable music shows, theater or cultural events? The TheatreWorks production of As You Like It at Rock Ledge Ranch.
Is there a fall event you're looking forward to? The last Balloon Classic. We'll go as a family, get there really early in the morning, and take a picnic breakfast.
How is Colorado Springs doing in terms of its arts and entertainment culture? It's starting to get a little more support, and there's some exciting new things happening, but a lot more could be happening than there is.
Who in the artistic community deserves more attention? We have a world-class artist in David Simpich, the puppet master. They'd be so excited about him in Europe.

What was your summer high point? Not having floods in Manitou.
Did you see any memorable music shows, theater, or other cultural events? Blues Under the Bridge.
Describe the best thing about autumn. The fall climate here — nice warm days, cool nights.
How is the local arts and entertainment culture faring? It's improving, but there's a long way to go. They've brought some good shows into the Fine Arts Center, but there are few reputable venues for young artists.
Who in our artistic community deserves more attention? Andy Tirado, Phil Vallejo, Chris Weed — a number of young artists.

Describe the best thing you did for yourself this summer. Taking a really relaxing trip to California, on the beach in Newport. Plus, we traveled all through Hollywood.
Did you see any memorable music shows, theater, or other cultural events? I saw Bruno Mars and OutKast a week apart at First Bank Amphitheatre in Denver.
What's the best part about the arrival of fall? The colors just before the leaves fall. The way they contrast against the colors of the mountains is so beautiful.
Assess the state of local arts and entertainment culture. It's starting to do a little better. There'll be more opportunities for really good art as we grow in size and diversity.
