Ariel Pink, with Os Mutantes

When: Tue., Nov. 23 2010

Since his 2004 debut on Animal Collective's Paw Tracks label, Ariel Pink has been a highly influential, albeit somewhat cultish, character in underground pop music circles. Early albums sounded like they were birthed in a concrete bathroom, yet conveyed an independent record store clerk's grasp on a half-century's most revered music. The infectious chorus and murky mix of "For Kate I Wait," his homage to Kate Bush, enraptured critics and fans, and his more polished new album, Before Today, does the same. At 8 tonight, catch him and his Haunted Graffiti bandmates, along with resurrected Brazilian psych-gods Os Mutantes, at Denver's Bluebird Theater (3317 E. Colfax Ave., for $20 in advance, $25 at the door, 16-plus only. — Bill Forman
