- Another magnificent home for sale
Although Colorado College has relentlessly acquired properties along its borders for many decades, one private home remains on the campus, the extraordinarily beautiful red brick and sandstone building at 1130 North Cascade. Sam Morreale, who lived there for nearly half a century, told me of one such attempt: "Chase Stone [a prominent local banker and civic booster] came to me in the sixties and told me that CC wanted to buy my house. I asked him what they were going to do with it. He told me, 'Why, we'll just take a wrecking ball to it!', so I told him to get the hell out, and never come back." Sam passed away a few weeks ago, and the magnificent old home has a For Sale sign in front; you can bet that CC is interested.
Hopefully, they no longer have any thoughts of tearing it down.
