Albert Rothschild

When: Aug. 7-31 2009

Peruse a handful of 18-by-24-inch photomontage works hanging currently on display at Black Cat Books (720 Manitou Ave., Manitou Springs, and you might at first think they were executed by several different artists. Photoshopped housecats and dolphins float awkwardly beside bubbles, a roadsign and a UFO in two of the odd constructs. Then, in two others, bright, butterfly-covered geishas bear a sort of middle school, girlish, doodle-on-notebook-paper aesthetic. Strangely enough, all the eclectic images you'll eye stem from the mind of newbie Manitoid (well ... since 2005) and 30-plus-year artist Albert Rothschild, who cites Dadaism and Dali as inspirations. Rothschild's fun musings will hang through August. — Matthew Schniper
