Thank you for contacting me here at the Butte and allowing me the opportunity to address some of your concerns about the Butte’s recent decision to discontinue their 3-year relationship with the Butte Theater Foundation.

It is actually quite simple; 3 years ago, the Butte Foundation was realigned in order to make the financial support of the City’s yearly funding to the Butte more transparent through a 501C3 entity. In doing so, the Butte would further their ability to more readily acquire grant and endowment funding. In short, the Foundation was organized to raise money in support of the Butte and thus easing the yearly financial pressures of the City.

Unfortunately, over the past 3 years the City’s cost to support the Butte have increased rather than decreased. The City felt that much of this was due to the Foundation’s agenda not aligning with City interests, believing the Foundations’ projects were taking precedence over their fundraising commitments to the City. Consequently, the decision was made to discontinue the 3-year relationship with the Butte Foundation.

The City will revert to funding the Butte directly through the professional production company as it did in 2007-2017, thus simplifying the process and continue its tradition of professional shows May through December, with numerous events throughout the winter months.
