Shortly after I announced my campaign for re-election, the Centrist Project called me for an interview, which focused on my leadership of Manitou Springs. As an unaffiliated representative of the community, our goals have been clear. We discussed Council's accomplishments and upcoming goals for the future when re-elected.
Neither my campaign nor I have received a direct contribution from any organization. As a candidate, it is outside of my control how a group of this type chooses to participate. The rules are very clear; groups can do as they please in support of a candidate. The law also states that I am not allowed to have anything to do with their decisions or communications, and I have followed this law.
The question at the forum was, "What do they (Centrist Project) want in return?" According to their website they are interested in fair and balanced non-partisan government. I am not affiliated with any political party.
The people of Manitou Springs want good government and my leadership has accomplished this. For example, the community asked for leadership on issues around panhandling, illegal camping, and Incline impacts. I've led the way on these issues. It's about responding to all people's needs.
The second question at the forum was about campaign finance reporting laws. Manitou Springs follows the secretary of state's campaign finance laws and I support strong transparency in campaign finance reporting.
This organization has nothing to do with our community as a whole. We are strong, independent-minded and united to move Manitou Springs forward. I urge everyone to move away from the political rhetoric and instead focus on our shared community goals with respect for our future.
— Mayor Nicole Nicoletta, Manitou Springs
