A buffalo burger and Cowboy Cocktail at The Spur of the Moment

If you’re hiking in the Spruce Mountain Open Space then you may as well continue four miles north afterward for a meal. Larkspur only offers a few options, and we pick the not dive-y (actually quite tidy) Spur.

Our bartender/server can’t tell us much of anything about the place’s history other than it apparently moved to the current building nine years ago; the menu notes establishment in 1994.

I’m happy to find a can of 10 Barrel Brewing’s Profuse Juice Hazy IPA, hugely tropical and hoppy and quite a craft contrast to my dining mate’s Cowboy Cocktail, made with an Hornitos tequila infusion with lime juice into a Coors Light pint. It drinks cheap and beach-y, which is to say perfectly paired with a well-constructed, no frills buffalo burger to which we add roasted green chiles.

We also pay more for sweet potato fries, which appear house-cut and pleasantly aren’t limp and oily. You could say we’re happy with our Spur of the Moment decision. Zing!
