13th annual Rocky Mountain Oktoberfest

When: Sept. 17-18, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. & 5-10 p.m. 2010

Oktoberfest was initially started in 1810 in Munich, Germany to celebrate the marriage of Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen to Crown Prince Ludwig, later the King of Bavaria, Duke of Franconia, Duke in Swabia and Count Palatinate of the Rhine, or, as he was better known, L-wig. As king, he quelled rioters' upset over a tax on beer by dropping the price 10 percent. Unfortunately, a similar discount you shan't find — though there'll be plenty of barley-loving folk — at the 13th annual Rocky Mountain Oktoberfest. Party hard for $5 to $6 at the Ute Pass Cultural Center (210 E. Midland Ave., Woodland Park, woodlandparkchamber.com). — Bryce Crawford
