Have you read any selections from the recent spate of books about Bush or the Bush administration? No, but I read a lot of articles on the Internet.
What political work has most shaped your political thinking? The Federalist Papers. A lot of colonists weren't comfortable with the idea of a constitution, and The Federalist Papers were a bunch of articles put together into a book that helped get the constitution ratified.
What advice would you give the Bush and Kerry campaigns? Kerry needs to stay the course because there's a lot of anybody-but-Bush people out there. Bush needs to keep his mouth shut because he digs a deeper hole every time he speaks. He does pretty well reading prepared speeches, but he shows who he really is every time he goes off on his own.
Is the current crop of political commercials influencing how Americans will vote? Unfortunately, the ones that are negative will influence voters most. We seem to remember negative things more than good things.
What's the most memorable bumper sticker you've seen? "Three Purple Hearts trump two DUIs." Also, I saw one with a phone number on it that said, "Call Steve and tell him to Schuck-off."

What political book has most influenced your politics? I don't read political books. There's a lot of reading out there. I mostly read professional books and children's books.
What advice would you give to the Bush and Kerry campaigns? State their agendas, speak to what they believe in and support, keep a high level of integrity in the campaign, and don't tell us about the other person -- tell us about yourselves.
What is the most striking bumper sticker you've seen of late? "Bush lies, people die." That offends me.
What's your advice to voters? Get as educated as you can and don't worry about political parties. Instead, look at each person and his beliefs and values.

Have you read any recent books on Bush and his administration? No, but I read the paper and listen to NPR.
Name the most influential book you've read on politics. I'm presently reading a book on the Revolutionary War, trying to get a sense of the differences between our democratic system and the governments of Europe.
What advice would you give to the Bush and Kerry campaigns? I'd like to see more debate and less advertising.
What's the best bumper sticker about the 2004 race you've seen? I haven't seen many, and they're pretty blas.
