As of Oct. 1, the local nonprofit serving homeless young people has a new name: “The Place.”
The nonprofit formerly called Urban Peak Colorado Springs keeps the same mission — helping youths exit homelessness and live fulfilled lives — and its shelter, street outreach, health care and other programs won’t go away.
But the name change means The Place is no longer an affiliate of Urban Peak Denver, a separation meant to “bring deeper focus to programming and long-term planning that fits the different communities,” according to a statement from the nonprofit.
The change also allows The Place to use local partners for business functions such as accounting and HR.
“Our peer relationship with Urban Peak will remain strong, and now focuses on cutting edge programs as well as advocacy and education about solutions that work to help youth exit homelessness,” Shawna Kemppainen, executive director of The Place, said in the statement.
