Rocketoberfest, Sept. 15, noon to 5 p.m., Space Foundation Discovery Center, spacefoundation.org.
or many years, Bill Layton, the owner of Bite Me Gourmet Sausage
, held a fundraising festival in his backyard to raise money for the SADS (Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndromes) Foundation
. Over time, it outgrew Layton’s backyard, and has now moved to a place with more “space,” if you’ll pardon the pun. The result of a new partnership between Bite Me Gourmet Sausage and the Space Foundation
, the inaugural Rocketoberfest will raise money for the SADS Foundation, the Space Foundation’s educational programs and the Pikes Peak Club, which contributes to community improvements and nonprofits through fundraising and volunteerism. At the family-friendly fest, expect food trucks (including Bite Me, of course), kids’ activities throughout the center and plentiful beer from breweries like Red Leg, Goat Patch and Smiling Toad. If that’s not enough, there will also be live entertainment by the Charlie Milo Trio, Twelve Valve Diesel and more, going all day.
