The first Friday in August is International Beer Day
, and it's a perfect day for a pint.
Celebrating the passing of another work week with friends? Grab a beer. Trying to forget the nightmare that is our political situation? Beer. Want to check out all the great new breweries in town — and there are more than a few this year? Oh yeah — it's beer time.
Atrevida Beer Company’s a vision anchored in brewing skill.
Take, for example, Atrevida Beer Company, which has filled the former Great Storm Brewing Company with killer fusions of Latin flavors and European brewing techniques. It's something different and, frankly, awesome.
There is of course always the call to the newest breweries in town, and at the moment, that's Metric.
From left to right: Mom Jeans raspberry kölsch, Helios west coast IPA with sunflower seeds, No Pulp hazy IPA, Catalina Wine Mixer white grape must saison.
This brewery's brand-spankin'-new — it's been open for just about two weeks. Those who prefer their pints with a little FOMO can still beat their buddies to try out these beers. And since it's a no-flagships brewery, there's always something new on tap.
Of course, there's more to beer than just drinking it. Brewing one's own beer opens up a whole world of experimentation. We at the Indy
talked to Gary Lee of Old West Homebrewing about the basics, and I shared one of my personal recipes for an ESB.
And to celebrate, we put together a brief playlist of beer and beer-drinking songs. Enjoy responsibly!
