Dio's estate auction will include velour robe, leather shinguards and animatronic sphinx

If you read last issue’s Dio Disciples interview, you most likely know that the late metal icon’s official tribute band hit Colorado Springs’ Sunshine Studios on Friday, Aug. 17. What you probably don’t know is that a Ronnie James Dio estate auction will be held online Sept. 14-15.

The newly announced event includes some fairly intimate offerings. If, for instance, you want to don Ronnie’s clothing, you can bid on:

• A pair of the singer's Rainbow-era moon and stars patchwork jeans (estimated value $2,000–$4,000)

• Dio’s violet suede vest with tails and red leather shin guards from the Sacred Heart Tour ($2,000–$4,000)

• Or, for an even more cozy experience, the personalized Black Sabbath hooded velour robe that Ronnie regularly wore backstage on his Mob Rules Tour ($1,000–$2,000).

There’s more, of course, including original album art, custom guitars, a rolling wardrobe case, and, best of all, oversized animatronic stage props, including a sphinx, a knight in armor, and a scary spider.

You can find complete details, including information on a preview exhibition showing in New York City, at the Ronnie James Dio auction site.
