ational Pride Month (June) may be over, but the pride party continues this weekend with Colorado Springs’ official PrideFest
. With two days of celebration, PrideFest includes dozens of vendors and performances, plus the always enjoyable Pride Parade downtown. This is your chance to connect with local LGBTQ organizations and LGBTQ-owned businesses. It’s your chance to catch national and local performers singing, dancing and doing drag onstage. It’s your chance to wave your flag of choice and celebrate being exactly who you are, whether you’re queer or an ally coming to join in on the fun. Pride wasn’t always a party. In fact, it began as a riot, a protest and a call to action. Keep that in mind as you drink, dance and enjoy all PrideFest has to offer, as well as how far our community has come. Last year, PrideFest co-organizer Nic Grzecka said: “It’s important to us to stay strong as a community, especially when we’re still fighting.” So let’s gather our strength, honor each other and keep up the good work.
