Indy Inclusion Awards, July 10, 6-9 p.m., Briarhurst Manor Estate, 404 Manitou Ave., $25-$35, facebook.com/csindependent
elebrating its fifth anniversary this year, the Indy Inclusion awards honor local LGBTQ people, organizations and businesses — and their allies — who have worked to make Colorado Springs a more inclusive place. This year’s awards are particularly special, as the Indy
has chosen to honor five past winners with legacy awards. These winners, voted on by previous committees and members of the LGBTQ community, will be announced at one of the Indy
’s best parties of the year. Held at the Briarhurst Manor Estate with heavy hors d’oeuvres, champagne, beer and wine, the Inclusion garden party is as much a celebration of our winners as it is an excuse to look fabulous and dance till sundown (with music provided by DJ Karson). Some special treats are in store this year: Local spoken-word poet Nico Wilkinson will open the evening with some poetry, and drag queens Gemini Sky and Kyrah Jordan will be emceeing the award ceremony (and treating guests to a performance). Remember, the dress code is all-white cocktail attire, an homage to White Parties, which originated during the AIDS crisis as a way to honor the LGBTQ community. So meet our legacy award winners, get your glass of champagne, and help us celebrate the amazing accomplishments of our local LGBTQ heroes.
