Roadway paving and milling operations will begin in the Garden of the Gods Park beginning the evening of Wednesday, July 6. The park will close early nightly to accommodate for full road closures within the park for the next three weeks, weather dependent. During the daytime, the roadways and parking lots will all be open and accessible as usual.
Nightly Roadway Closures:
Sunday - Thursday, nightly from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Friday - Saturday, nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
All roadways and parking areas within the Garden of the Gods Park will be closed nightly starting at 8 p.m. and reopen the following morning. The closures include Gateway Road, Juniper Way Loop, Garden Drive, Garden Lane, and Ridge Road.
No vehicular, bicycle or pedestrian traffic will be permitted on the roadway during the nighttime milling and paving operation. Recreational users and drivers using the roadway during the daytime may encounter grooved and un-even pavement throughout the three week project.
Natural surface and concrete trails will remain open and available during normal park operating hours (5 a.m. to 11 p.m.). However, parking will not be available within the park during the paving operations and trail users will need to park their vehicles outside of the park if using the trails after 8 p.m. or before paving begins in the mornings.
Trails users may encounter construction equipment at trail crossings of roadways during this time. Recreational trail users should use extra caution while crossing at roadways.
Paving of the park roadways is funded through the voter-approved 2C ballot measure passed in November 2015 and was selected to be paved in 2016 because no utility or other repair work is required prior to paving, making it a shovel-ready project.
