Details are sketchy, but the El Paso County Sheriff's Office
is investigating allegations of use of force "stat keeping," according to sheriff's spokesperson Jackie Kirby when the Independent
asked about the probe.
"There is an ongoing Professional Standards investigation," she says via email. She did not define "stat keeping," but was responding to a question from the Indy
about a "fight club" type of operation that, according to a source who refused to be named, involved jail deputies who kept track of how many inmates they could punch without getting caught.
"I cannot comment any further until the investigation is complete," Kirby says. "How many deputies in addition to the time period it covers is part of the investigation and will not be released at this time. I don't have a date as of yet when the investigation will be complete."
We asked if deputies had been reassigned pending the investigation, but Kirby says, "There are no employees on leave as a result of this investigation. The rest is deemed part of the investigation."
