Pro-refugee rally decries Councilor Pico's resettlement resolution

A crowd of around 40 community members gathered en masse on the steps of City Hall Tuesday afternoon to voice discontent with Councilor Andy Pico's proposal to declare opposition to resettling refugees in Colorado Springs. Former state Rep. Dennis Apuan, who founded the group Colorado Springs Welcome, declared that "security comes not from closing our borders but from opening up our hearts and homes." Constitutional attorney and human rights activist William J. Durland also suggested City Council has no jurisdiction over the issue. Here are some sights from the windy afternoon.
