Just a few weeks ago in Side Dish we advised you to help a Brother out
, and vote for Brother Luck
, as he contended to appear on Chopped: Impossible Restaurant Challenge
We'll go ahead and take the modest track (not really) by taking credit for him making the final cut from 10 chefs to the final four, because he's in. Way to vote, Indy
readers! (Again, I have no evidence of this at all.)
But earlier this week Luck posted this on his Facebook page:
Well I just have to say thanks to all of you who supported me because I made it to the next round to film Robert Irvine Chopped!!!!! I fly out early next year so stay tuned and thanks again for the countless voting.....
And Friday, we chatted by phone for a moment. Turns out this will be his second TV appearance thus far scheduled in 2016, as he says he's already filmed for another show that he's not yet allowed to talk about, but he says we'll be surprised.
He expects to film for Chopped
between Jan. 25 through 27, and perhaps be able to talk about whether he won or not as early as March, though he's not sure when the show will air.
As for the format, in case you're unfamiliar with the show's platform, Luck expects to receive a mystery basket of "strange and unorthodox" ingredients, and try to showcase them to the best of his ability inside 20 minutes. If he makes the cut from that round, it's the same format for another 30 minute round, trying to earn a spot to a final dessert round — he's not sure if he'd be going up against Robert Irvine or not in that round (he's still catching up on episodes from Season 1 and reading all the paperwork).
"I hope for his sake I don't go up against him," he jokes, "I don't want to embarrass the guy."
In addition to tough talk, he says his staff has been challenging him with mystery ingredients and he's considering asking some other local chefs to test him, perhaps at a private home as an event for charity — details to follow if we get them.
Soon we'll be calling him Big Brother.
