We've periodically checked back in on
former Nosh chef Shane Lyons
, who continues to make a name for himself at Distilled New York
The latest big news leads us to February 10, 2016, when Lyons will prepare a Feast of the Senses dinner
($170) at the The Beard House
In case you're unfamiliar, the occasion comes via an honorable invite
from The James Beard Foundation, and makes for a highly respectable bullet point on a chef's resumé. Locally, we know that Brother Luck
has also enjoyed the privilege of a Beard House visit. (Are we missing anyone else? Comment below.)
As described on the foundation's website:
The mission of the James Beard Foundation is to celebrate, nurture, and preserve America’s culinary heritage and future. Towards this end, chefs are invited to “perform” at the Beard House by presenting lunches, brunches, workshops, and dinners to Foundation members and the public.
Chefs are invited by the director of house programming based on the following criteria:
national or regional reputation, as evidenced by press and resume/biography
known use of high quality, seasonal, and/or local ingredients
demonstrated excellence in a particular discipline: e.g. regional, ethnic, pastry
financial stability and resources to partner with JBF for a New York event without negative consequences to own business
desire on part of chef and restaurant
level of interest in event by our dining members and their guests
submission of complete event proposal, including menu and wines
And now the cool part for any Colorado Springs chef: Lyons wants your help at the dinner.
In an email he wrote to me on Friday — we formerly worked together at Sencha more than a decade ago — he says, "I would love to have some fella Colorado cooks join me. Can you please spread the word that there is an open invite to anybody from the springs that wants to come help at the dinner? I of course cannot provide transportation or lodging, just a fun opportunity to cook and network with some great people in the industry, and of course to be in the house of a legend."
If you're serious, email him directly at firstname.lastname@example.org
, he says.
