The Broadmoor has requested an extension to keep this project open in order to allow them to further evaluate their plan to add an equestrian element to the Broadmoor experience. They cited the “significant amount of time and effort” invested in bringing this project forward and their continuing evaluation to determine the most adequate location for an equestrian location.... Requests such as this are not uncommon and almost always granted; which this extension was granted until June 1, 2016. If they decide to move forward I will keep all of the residents informed of their decision. In April, the resort put its plans on ice, telling the city in a letter:
We have slowed down our permitting process with City for the past few weeks and I would like to take this opportunity to explain why. We had a market research project underway, bringing in two focus groups which consisted of meeting planners and Broadmoor leisure guests. The purpose was to get customer input, feedback and ideas on the offerings within our newly developed Broadmoor Wilderness Experience. We now have the results and the feedback was pretty much uniform between both the meeting planner group and the leisure travelers. Cloud Camp, The Ranch at Emerald Valley, our new Fishing Camp and what we are doing at Seven Falls all rated very high in terms of uniqueness, the quality of the offering and, most importantly, the authenticity of the experience. The one area that did not rate well was the equestrian development at Bear Creek Park. While the design of the facility was well received there was an general consensus that the riding experience that would be offered within the park itself did not measure up with our other offerings in terms of authenticity and the esthetic equestrian experience people would expect coming to Colorado. They felt that the park itself was very lovely but felt more of a wilderness setting would be most desirable. Based on this feedback, we are going to postpone the permitting process for the time being to give us the opportunity to evaluate alternatives.
