Regarding the "exciting stuff planned
," Local Relic co-owner Melissa Lofton has announced that the outfit plans to be the anchor brewery at the upcoming Lincoln School development
, at 2727 N. Cascade Ave.
The project is already earning comparisons to Ivywild School for its mixed-use plans, to include the brewery plus restaurant and retail space.
Loft says LR will move from its current production facility on the east side of town and hopefully open as early as March, all that's pending a finalizing of a lease agreement.
LR also announced a monthly membership plan not unlike a beer-of-the-month program. We'll have details on that and more for you in this next week's Side Dish column.

Around this time last year, we attended a unique beer dinner
co-hosted by the social enterprise outfit Common Cause Catering
Along with CCC owners Jeff Zearfoss
and Melissa Lofton
, brewer Grant Goodwiler
presented his craftwork from Local Relic
, and the group very much hinted that the evening was a taste of things to come.
As recently reported by Focus on the Beer
, that time has just about arrived, with Local Relic
's TTB and state approval to move forward selling beer soon in restaurants and liquor stores. They recently moved in next to Axe and the Oak
where they are currently brewing.
Reached by phone on Wednesday, Lofton did share that the team is in negotiations for a satellite tasting room too, with a goal to be open by January.
She emphasized how Local Relic will operate quite differently than most breweries, though not too far off from the likes of Nano 108
, when it comes to making small batches (10 to 25 gallons) of beers constantly versus hosting any flagship brews.
Lofton says Goodwiler will make upwards of 60 separate beers a year and keep styles constantly rotating.
There's much more in the works that she's not yet ready to reveal, but says to keep an eye on Local Relic's Facebook page to be the first to know of developments.
