Back in February, as part of our Springs' Spirits roundup
in our Bites issue, we looked into the ambitious plans of Green Mountain Falls' Black Bear Distillery
And by ambitious, I mean donkeys. (God how I've pined to write that sentence my whole career.)
Well, rescue donkeys as millstone grinders, and house malting and milling and an alternative avenue for hard-to-obtain barrels — basically a whole bunch of difficult and/or time consuming steps to make an Irish Whiskey the true old fashioned way.
Anyway, I requested that the madman behind it, Victor Matthews
, keep me posted with updates as the project moves forward. Which we'll continue to do here as well.
For now, I received this communiqué from him last evening:
The Green Mountain Falls Planning Commission has officially voted to recommend donkey approval to the Board of Trustees. Now I go to the next full board meeting and then we post it, followed by an official town approval in May.
So I'm officially out of the Planning Commission. Basically this is an initial approval for the whole plan!
Something could go wrong, but it's looking pretty awesome, we even got the barrel thing figured out.
Soon, rescue donkeys may find fulfillment helping make your hooch, while playing official mascots.
