Amy was born in Denver, Colorado in 1967. Raised in a small town in Nebraska, Amy moved back to Colorado in 1984 and has lived in Colorado Springs ever since. Amy graduated from Rampart High School in 1986 and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Psychology. Amy has been married to Bob since 1992 and has 3 children. Her hobbies include camping, fishing, shooting and non-stop activities with her family.John Suthers, who will kick off his campaign after he leaves his post as attorney general in January due to term limits, also has a shot of him and his family on his campaign website. Not quite as folksy, but wife and daughters are looking proud and happy, below.
John was adopted by Pat and Bill Suthers when he was three weeks old. His father had trained at Fort Carson in 1942 and his parents moved to Colorado Springs in 1946. John attended grade school and high school in Colorado Springs, graduating from St. Mary’s High School in 1970.Then he scores points by highlighting his daughters' accomplishments, as well as those of his wife:
John’s father died when he was fifteen and financing college was a challenge. He earned a full academic scholarship to the University of Notre Dame where he graduated magna cum laude. Law school at the University of Colorado followed where he graduated in the top quarter of his law school class. After graduation he became a Deputy District Attorney in Colorado Springs and was later promoted to Chief Deputy in charge of the Economic Crime Division. While there, he earned a reputation as an excellent trial lawyer.
John and his wife Janet have two daughters. Alison is a Deputy District Attorney in Denver and Kate is a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy Reserve, presently deployed to Djibouti, Africa. Janet also grew up in Colorado Springs. She earned her MBA from UCCS and is retired from HP/Agilent. She is a lifelong community volunteer in Colorado Springs, including service on the District 12 School Board and the City Planning Commission. But there's no family shot to be found on Mary Lou Makepeace's campaign website. She's been divorced for awhile but does have kids and grandkids. There is this very nice portrait of Makepeace, mayor from 1997 to 2003, but the site is short on biographical information.
Having originally run on the platform “Kids, Cops, and Cars,” Mary Lou Makepeace aspires to set Colorado Springs back on the right path, gain cooperation among City Council and City offices, and establish Colorado Springs as an Economic Prosperity Hub and Innovator in Colorado. However, Makepeace's site has a couple places where visitors can see who's volunteering and who's giving money.
