  • If this is your idea of a good time, El Paso County has a deal for you: a tour of county projects on Sept. 24.

If you're not prone to motion sickness and have an acute interest in road and highway projects, here's one way to spend a weekday: on a bus with El Paso County officials checking out various public projects.

From the west side to up north, you'll see what's going on around the county. Here's the pertinent information, from a release:
The El Paso County Board of County Commissioners invites citizens to join them on Wednesday, Sept. 24, to board the “Work Session on Wheels” tour bus traveling to several prominent development, road, and transportation projects underway in 2014. The route will include more than 20 stops or discussion topics countywide relevant to land development and road and bridge construction including the McLaughlin Road roundabout, the Stapleton Road extension, Holtwood Road Bridge, Ramah Highway, Harrisville Road, Hodgen Road improvements, Marksheffel Road, Colorado Centre, Fern, Wellington and Sand Gulches, Ute Pass Elementary School and Rainbow Falls.

The circular bus tour will begin from Centennial Hall at 200 S. Cascade Avenue. There will be a shuttle leaving from that location at 7:30 a.m. sharp, and will then proceed to Charles Brown Transportation & Environmental Complex on Akers Drive to board the tour bus and pick up more passengers. Participants will return to Centennial Hall at approximately 4:30 p.m. and Brown Transportation Complex at approximately 5:00 p.m. Boxed lunches will be provided for all work session participants at the Black Forest Public Services Highway yard.
As you might imagine, seating is limited so contact Pamela Podhirny, 520-6812 or email her at PamelaPodhirny@elpasoco.com, to reserve a spot. Reservations are being taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Deadline is Thursday at noon.
