And a lot of good news it is!
The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center
announced its performing arts program has broken all attendance records in the 2013-2014 season, which recently wrapped with the FAC Youth Repertory student show Applause
. It sold 27,000 tickets during the season, which includes not only plays and musicals, but concerts and special events.
“Of course, I’m proud of our creative teams who were so integral to our success this season, but I’m also thrilled that our mix of theater, music and comedy is connecting more deeply with the community,” says Scott RC Levy
, executive director of performing arts and producing artistic director in the press release. “I am confident that our 2014/15 season will shine even brighter!”
Matt O'Neill Art
"Town Without Pity," which O'Neill gifted to the FAC.
Yesterday, Michael Paglia
of Westword reported
that Matt O'Neill
, of the FAC's recently closed Thrift Store Sublime
show, gifted the museum an original piece of art. He writes: "During the show, O'Neill felt that museum director and chief curator Blake Milteer
and assistant curator Joy Armstrong
had done well by him, so he decided to give one painting from the show to the CSFAC — and he let them pick which one (the museum already has two O'Neills in its permanent collection)."
Moving along, Cottonwood Center for the Arts
has launched an IndieGogo campaign to renovate its Studio B to become a dedicated performing arts space. "Studio B is currently used as a partial storage space, partial classroom and we are excited by the opportunity to expand our programs and our outreach by developing this large space into a performance venue for theater, dance, music, poetry, and more."
Cottonwood is asking for $5,000 to do it, and as of right now, it's earned $1,140 with 13 days left. Learn more about it, and donate, here
, meanwhile, has set firm dates for the Air Shift Workshop
, a three-day professional development program that "teaches new ways for art and business to connect through innovation and collaboration." Led by Arts Incubator of the Rockies
, it will run Oct. 24-26 at the FAC, and costs $275. Register here
(Air Shift is just one of many programmed events to happen this October as part of Arts Month
, which COPPeR is spearheading. Learn more about that here
, and watch for updates on the IndyBlog.)
Boulder Street Gallery
and the Pikes Peak Watercolor Society
have teamed up to build an ongoing PPWS artists co-op
in the gallery. About 24 of PPWS' 120 member artists will display there, with two featured artists each month, who you can meet at monthly First Friday artwalks.
Lastly, the Galleries of Contemporary Art
got some love from The Culture Trip
(an online world travel and culture website — complete with travel tips for the Antarctic
), which named
it one of the top 10 galleries in Aspen and the Colorado Rockies. Most of the others hail from (obviously) Aspen or nearby Basalt, yet GOCA is the sole non-Denver Front Range locale listed.
