Free pizza and cheaper winter-gear at Mountain Equipment Recyclers' anniversary

Since opening three years ago, Mountain Equipment Recyclers has donated more than $42,000 to nonprofits; given 1,500-plus cups of tea or coffee away for free; and offered space to more than 750 consignors. It even sold me a dope winter hat one time.

All that calls for an anniversary celebration, which (and sorry for the late notice) comes Saturday, March 8. Singer Chauncy Crandall will play from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with "house band" Monte Black (and company) taking over for the next two hours.

Lastly, besides the winter-clearance sale that will be taking place simultaneously, and offering up to 70 percent off some gear, the most important part is this: "There will be enough Louie's Pizza for 100 people starting at 11:00!"

Here's more from a press release on the nonprofit front:
We were honored to donate to three great military non-profits in 2013. Veteran's Expeditions, Paradox Sports, and Project Healing Waters all offer great outdoor-adventure programs for military veterans. Thanks to your donations and consignments, we wrote monthly checks to these great groups. It is our policy to offer new military non-profits each year. This creates a bittersweet situation because we have to say goodbye to these organization. Please continue to support them! Led by special people like Stacy Bare, Nick Watson, Tim O'Neill, and a group of Vietnam Veterans, these guys always need help! Seek them out, send them a note, and most importantly volunteer and donate!

Going forward we are excited to support Project Sanctuary and The Home Front Cares as our 2014 military partners! Traditionally, we have supported three groups each year, but we feel very committed to these two in 2014! We've previously given to both and want help again. Project Sanctuary offers therapeutic family retreats near Winter Park, CO. Many of their clients are Fort Carson based. The Home Front Cares is a Colorado Springs based organization with deep roots in the community. They offer financial assistance to soldiers and their families. Our theme last year was supporting healing through outdoor adventure. This year we will assist families and support their sacrifices after more than a decade of war and deployments.

2014 is shaping up to be a great year! We're all currently enjoying this epic ski season with eyes on a beautiful summer! Stop by soon and join us to celebrate three years March 8th!
