Today is Election Day
, and the clock is ticking toward 7 p.m. — the last chance you have to do your civic duty and cast a ballot
Look, I know that we're not electing a president this time around, but allow me to play cheerleader for a second: Your vote can make a huge difference. It will help decide whether we pay a $950 million annual tax to fund education reforms. It will decide whether we tax recreational marijuana. It will decide on numerous local issues that affect people's everyday lives, such as what school board members make decisions on our kids' education. (And if you want our take on these issues, you can always check our endorsements
But let's put aside the particulars here. You should vote, because voting is a big deal
. People fought and died to ensure that you get a chance to make decisions about the country you live in. And you're damn lucky to have been born in a country where that battle was fought for you. All you have to do is page through the international news to see how lousy it is to live in a country where dictators get to make all those decisions.
You may feel like there are no good choices, or that your vote doesn't matter. But what if Susan B. Anthony
felt the same way, ladies?
OK, I'll get off my soapbox. I hope you get off your fannies and down to your nearest Voting Service Center or ballot drop off center.
Happy Election Day!
