Kum & Go? No!

If you live in Old Colorado City, then you've probably heard about the proposed Kum & Go gas station at the old Goodwill site.

And you probably have an opinion about it. In fact, it's safe to say that the gas station is the biggest controversy to rock Old Colorado City in years. While some say that the gas station would bring needed revenue to the neighborhood, others argue that the pumps would damage the area's old-timey image.

Many of the NIMBY neighbors say their concerns aren't being properly heard by officials.  Thus they are gathering tonight for a letter-writing campaign. Read on:

All you have to do is stop by the Westside Community Center (corner of 17th and Bijou) sometime between 5:30 to 7:30 pm on Tuesday evening, Aug. 6th. We'll be in the gym.

Choose a recipient (City Council, Mayor Bach, City Planning Commission, Goodwill Board Members, Kum&Go executives, and newspaper letters to the editor), and a talking point that appeals to you, and write a short 100 to 150 word letter.

Then put it in our giant box, and we'll mail them, 20 or so a day, and swamp the desks!

If you prefer email, there is WIFI! Bring a laptop and we will also have all email addresses as well.

Or hand write a letter at the "party", and take the list of email addresses home with you to write one later.

Bring the kids! It's a community-building, civic responsibility lesson as much as it is a letter writing party. But if the kids get bored after writing a letter or two, and you want to hang out and talk with your new friends and neighbors, there's a nice playground out back...

The gym will be open for two hours, but stop in for 15 minutes or a half hour anytime during that time.

We're inviting the media, so the more people that show up, the better!!!

Sorry for the short notice, but it's time to act NOW. Spread the word. Invite your friends!

Suggested donation: $1-$3 to help us cover the cost of renting the gym and stamps.
