Non-Profit Group Offers Workshop to Answer Insurance Questions
County Partners With United Policy Holders to Help Black Forest Fire Survivors
El Paso County, CO, Jul 3, 2013 — To help residents get started on clean up and recovery from the devastating Black Forest wildfire, El Paso County has invited United Policyholders, an experienced non-profit consumer group, to host one of their nationally recognized “Roadmap to Recovery” workshops. “Our goal is to help residents get off on the right foot by giving them useful information in a safe setting and without high-pressure sales pitches” said Commissioner Sallie Clark, who has been asked by District 1 Commissioner Darryl Glenn to coordinate the Black Forest Fire Community Support team.
The workshop will be free of charge on Monday, July 8th starting at 6:00 p.m. at Woodmen Valley Chapel, 8292 Woodmen Valley View in Colorado Springs. This is a non-profit educational event; no commercial solicitations are permitted. Attendees will receive free Roadmap to Recovery organizers, handbooks and flash drives to help them organize and move forward toward recovery. Mountain Shadows resident Steve Price will share strategies that were helpful as his family began the rebuilding process following the 2012 Waldo Canyon wildfire.
The “Roadmap to Recovery” workshop is free and open to the public. It will be followed by survivor-only support group “break-out” sessions that will allow neighbors to connect in an informal and confidential setting.
United Policy Holders co-founder, Amy Bach, will help attendees understand important insurance basics including:
-What to expect during the claims process
-Common problems and how to avoid them
-Where to look and how to identify trustworthy help and support
Insurance is typically the primary source of funding for residents to repair, rebuild and recover. But, the claims process can be overwhelming. “Our programs have been refined over 20 years of helping disaster survivors all over the country,” said United Policyholders’ Amy Bach. "We have a good sense of the truly important issues people need to understand and of how much information people can take in at each stage.”
This workshop is co‐sponsored by El Paso County and United Policyholders, a non-profit organization supported by grants and donations. United Policyholders has previously helped Colorado homeowners following the 2010 Four Mile Canyon wildfire and the 2012 Waldo Canyon and High Park wildfires in partnership with Boulder, El Paso and Larimer Counties.
